How an award-winning project reframed exhibition reach
Some stands are built to fill a footprint. This one was built to keep moving.

Sheard Packaging Wins Most Innovative Stand in 2026

Sheard Packaging won the Most Innovative Stand award at Packaging Innovations & Empack 2026, with Equinox Group bringing its Mobile Innovation Centre, MiC, to life as a stand concept designed for far more than two days on a show floor. It was a debut that turned heads, sparked serious conversations and created what Sheard described as “real momentum” around MiC, the business and innovation in corrugated.

Not just a stand, a better model

The most interesting part of this project is not the trophy shot.

It is the thinking behind it.

Sheard came to us with a modular stand brief. Perfectly sensible. Modular systems are efficient, flexible and proven. But the real challenge was not how to build a smarter stand. It was how to create an experience that could keep delivering once the exhibition ended.

Because that is the problem with most stand, even the good ones. They work hard for a few days, them vanish. If the right people were not in the hall, the opportunity disappears with them.

So, we changed the question.

Not “what should we build?”

“What does it need to do?”

The answer came on wheels

The result was MiC, Sheard’s 40-foot expandable HGV trailer, opening into a 60m2 mobile showcase and workspace.

Not a static build. Not a one hit wonder. A platform.

Something that could launch at Packaging Innovations & Empack, then head out on the road to customers, partners and prospects. Something that could host conversations, demonstrate capability and keep building pipeline long after the show floor lights went down.

That shift is what made the project land.

The stand looked strong, yes. Bright, open, polished, glazed floor to ceiling, with the confidence of a premium hospitality space. But the real value sat underneath the design. It was road-ready, commercially useful and built for repeat deployment.

Why it won

Awards can be vague. “Innovative” gets thrown around so often it can start to sound like background noise.

This one earned its keep.

MiC won because it solved a real problem in a smarter way. It took the core value of an exhibition stand, visibility, engagement, conversation, and extended it beyond the hall. Instead of waiting for the audience to come to the brand, the brand could now go to the audience.

That matters.

Because the best live experiences are no longer trapped by venue, date or footfall. The are built to travel. Built to adapt. Built to keep working.

From show moment to business asset

That is the bigger shift here.

This was not innovation for the sake of theatre. It was innovation with a job to do.

Get decision makers hands on with demos. Bring technical and design teams into the room. Create stronger follow up opportunities. Open doors after the exhibition. Build once, use repeatedly.

Simple in theory. Harder in practice. Especially when you need the thing to feel premium, function properly and survive life on the road.

That is where the project became more than a clever stand idea. It became a genuine business asset.

Equinox’s own playbook puts it neatly, if re-use is low, build a stand. If re-use is high, build a platform. Sheard’s MiC proves the point.

A strong debut, and a bigger signal

The timing helped. Packaging Innovations & Empack 2026, held on 11 and 12 February at the NEC Birmingham, gave Sheard the right stage for the launch, with the business appearing as the show’s Official Innovation Partner. But the project did not succeed because the badge looked nice on a graphic.

It succeeded because it gave people something worth walking into, talking about and remembering.

Sheard’s own response after the event said a lot. New relationships. Strong conversations. Genuine momentum. Pride in the team. That is the kind of language that tells you the stand did its job, and then some.

What it says about Equinox Group

For us, this project reflects a simple belief.

The most effective exhibition environments are not always fixed environments.

Sometimes the smartest answer is not to make the stand better. It is to change the model entirely.

That is what happened here. We took a brief that could have ended in a clean, competent modular build and pushed it somewhere more useful. More ambitious. More commercially intelligent.

And yes, it happened to win an award too.

Nice bonus.
